Statement

Most of my paintings include human figures. I paint instinctively, often not knowing what I am going to paint, first choosing a colour  to draw lines which develop into shapes which turn into figures. So my figures have their roots in a kind of abstraction, which is perhaps why they look stylised in form and this develops into the form-fitting costumes they wear. It's also why they are very much fantasy figures, sometimes dream like : floating, swimming, interacting in situations which could be interpreted as comical, erotic, mysterious, gothic, science fiction, surreal or many of these at one time. I like using bold colours and strong tonal contrasts.
